Legacy Park groundbreaking a “special day” on several fronts

The traditional construction project groundbreaking ceremonies for Legacy Park at Tradition on April 22 had additional meaning for the family company set to develop up to 5.4 million square feet of of commercial property in Port St. Lucie.
On April 22, 2020, the Port St. Lucie City Council approved the proposal of the Sansone Group of St. Louis to develop 3.2 million square feet of single- and multi-tenant Class A light industrial and distribution facilities the Southern Grove area of Tradition.1
The Sansone Group’s founder, Anthony F. Sansone, Sr., 93, died five days later. His son Nicholas Sansone, a principal with the company along with three of his brothers, said, “This is more than just a development, this project continues my father’s legacy.” Nicholas said the last conversations he and his brothers had with their father were about the property and his excitement about the project. The last photo they have of their father was taken onsite at Becker Road and Village Parkway.2
Nicholas Sansone also spoke about current plans for Legacy Park, which will host a 245,000-sq.-ft. FedEx sortation facility as its anchor, and now call for 5.4 million square feet of commercial development on 400 acres. FedEx alone plans to directly employ 475 people at Legacy Park.3
Sansone said, between his brothers and himself, they had more than 80 years of experience in development. “Hands down, this is the best city we’ve ever worked with,” he said.
“This is an historically significant day,” said Pete Tesch, president of the Economic Development Council of St. Lucie County, a key player in bringing the Sansone Group to the city. “This regional jobs corridor is now in full force. We now have our first Class A developer to help spark even more job creation.”
“This is a monumental step toward realizing shared dreams, a big and special day for all of us in Port St. Lucie,” said Mayor Gregory Oravec. He noted that the city is “coming of age” with this project on the city’s 60th anniversary. The city was incorporated April 27, 1961.4
