40 Under 40 | Brandon Wappelhorst

By Veneta Rizvic – Special Sections Editor, St. Louis Business Journal | Nov 2, 2023
Over the past 15 years, Brandon Wappelhorst has dedicated his career to Sansone Group and today serves as executive director of brokerage.

Throughout his career, Wappelhorst has completed more than six million square feet of sale and lease transactions, with an average annual transaction volume of more than $60 million. The Covid-19 pandemic had a severe impact on commercial real estate, significantly affecting the office market. Through this turbulent time, Wappelhorst led his team to grow revenue by an average of 18% per year since 2020.

Wappelhorst is a member of the Cardinal Glennon Development Board and has helped raise thousands of dollars for the organization. He also is a member of Folds of Honor St. Louis YP Board and St. Louis CCIM Board of Directors.

What is your biggest professional achievement? There have been many highlights over the course of my career but two notable achievements come to mind. First, brokering the sale of The Railway Exchange building downtown in 2017 definitely stands out. At over 1.2 million square feet, it is one of the largest buildings in the city. Railway is such an iconic St. Louis building; I hope the right developer can bring it back to life one day. Another notable highlight is being inducted into the prestigious Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR). With only 3,700 members worldwide, SIOR represents today’s most knowledgeable, experienced, and successful commercial real estate brokerage specialists.

What is your top goal for the year ahead? Beyond specific goals, over the next year I want to work on being more present in all aspects of my life. Today, we move at such a fast pace, constantly bombarded by “noise,” the days (not to mention years) seem to fly by in an instant. I want to be completely present in the now, defining what is most important, providing my full attention, and limiting outside distractions.

How are you involved in the community? I’ve sat on the Cardinal Glennon Development Board for many years, helping to raise money to support various programs at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. In addition, I am a member of the recently founded Folds of Honor St. Louis YP Board, working to support the life-changing mission of Folds of Honor. I also serve on the Executive Team of the CCIM – St. Louis Chapter Board of Directors, elevating our members to the highest levels of success in commercial real estate through education. Lastly, but certainly not least, I thoroughly enjoy coaching many of my children’s youth sports teams.

What is your secret talent? I am secretly pretty good at most DIY projects around the house. I aways want to see if I can do it before outsourcing. Naturally, this has led to my wife constantly adding to the wish list. With three active kids, now I just need to find the time.
